1. Library and Congress Center Building
Our library, established in 2008, has been operating in its current building since November 9, 2020. The Abdullah Enverî Library and Congress Center building has a total indoor area of 16,045 m2. Located in Block A, which has a usable area of 8,000 m2 and a seating capacity of 800, the library includes 3 executive offices, 2 administrative unit offices, 2 technical unit offices, 2 book halls, 3 study halls, an academic staff study hall, a journal and thesis archive, the Kilis library, a rare books room, a document archive, and a materials storage area. Our library building is disability-friendly and, because it is designed to be suitable for use by disabled students and staff, it was awarded the Accessibility Certificate by the Ministry of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Turkey on May 16, 2022.
2. Library Collection
2.1. Printed Publications
Our printed publications collection consists of 56,300 printed books, 5 manuscripts, 345 rare printed books, 471 theses, and 5,148 issues of academic periodicals from 672 different publications. The printed books, rare books, journals, theses, and audiovisual publications in our collection are presented using an open shelf system. Catalog records for our collection can be searched via our website http://yordam.kilis.edu.tr. Our book halls have catalog search systems that can provide a printout of the catalog number to access this catalog page.
2.2. Electronic Publications
Our electronic publications collection consists of 38,460 electronic journals, 43,067 e-books, and 5,500,000 e-publications. The library consists of 12 full-text academic publication databases containing theses, 4 index databases, 3 plagiarism analysis web applications, 1 reference management system, 1 interactive video portal, and 850 audiovisual publications (book CD-ROMs, documentary DVDs).
Subscriptions for 12 full-text academic publication databases, 2 index databases, 3 plagiarism analysis web applications, and 1 reference management system were provided by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM and made available to our institution through the EKUAL Protocol.
Access to the academic publication databases we subscribe to is via the internet using VETİS (using your library account username and password).
3. Accessible Library
Our library has one electronic magnifier for readers with low vision and one audiobook for visually impaired readers.
4. Library Services
4.1. Technical Services Branch Directorate: Manages processes related to technical services such as the selection, procurement, and cataloging of library materials. The sub-services are as follows:
4.1.1. Acquisition Service: This service handles the selection of printed books and journals, bibliographic checks for acquisition requests, creation of purchase lists, post-acquisition acceptance and control processes, and acceptance of printed books and journals received from distribution, donations, and transfers. Additionally, barcodes and movable property labels are affixed to acquired printed publications, and ownership stamps are applied to specific pages and margins.
4.1.2. Cataloging and Classification Service: In this service, catalog records for acquired printed books and journals are created in accordance with the Library of Congress Classification System, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. These records are then stored in the cataloging module database of the library automation program using Machine-Readable Cataloging Rules. Printed books and journals are cataloged, given subject headings and call sign numbers, and then their covers are scanned. A spine label containing the call sign number and a barcode label, along with a chip containing the inventory number, are affixed to these books and journals. Once the processing is complete, the books and journals are displayed in a showcase cabinet, and their cover photos are listed on the website.
4.1.3. Electronic Publications Service: This service handles the selection, testing, evaluation, creation of purchase and subscription lists for electronic publications, acceptance and control of acquired publications, and ensuring their accessibility. It also manages the institutional open access archive.
4.2. User Services Branch Directorate: Manages processes related to user services such as the promotion, use, lending, and user training of library materials. Its sub-services are as follows:
4.2.1. Promotion, Use, and User Training Service: This service provides promotion of library services, consultation services regarding library materials, user training, control and supervision of reading rooms, and computer and internet services.
4.2.2. Lending Service: This service handles the lending and return of printed books and journals to library members for use both inside and outside the library building, as well as the maintenance of the arrangement and organization of books and journals on the shelves.
4.2.3. Interlibrary Cooperation Services: This service handles interlibrary lending and return of printed books and the provision of printed and electronic documents and information.
4.3. Administrative Services Branch Directorate: This department handles administrative tasks such as the Department Head's secretarial work, official correspondence, library material procurement and subscriptions, other goods and materials procurement, payroll management, movable property management, repairs, renovations, and cleaning. Its sub-services are:
4.3.1. Secretarial and Correspondence Services: This service handles the Department Head's secretarial work and official correspondence.
4.3.2. Procurement Service: This service handles the procurement of goods and services and subscriptions.
4.3.3. Payroll and Movable Property Service: This service handles payroll management and movable property transactions.
